This serves as a reference to the permit&#8217;s\u00a0<a title=\"Dorsal fin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dorsal_fin\">dorsal fin<\/a>\u00a0that occasionally protrudes from the water when\u00a0<a title=\"Shoaling and schooling\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shoaling_and_schooling\">schools<\/a>\u00a0of permit feed near the surface.<sup id=\"cite_ref-UFL_2-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Permit_(fish)#cite_note-UFL-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Permits can be distinguished by their elongated\u00a0<a title=\"Dorsal fin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dorsal_fin\">dorsal fins<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Anal fin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anal_fin\">anal fin<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-UFL_2-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Permit_(fish)#cite_note-UFL-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The dorsal fin is shaped like a scythe.
