It is one of the largest fish in the genus <i><a title=\"Caranx\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Caranx\">Caranx<\/a><\/i>, growing to a maximum known length of 124\u00a0cm and a weight of 32 <a title=\"Kilogram\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kilogram\">kg<\/a>, although is rare at lengths greater than 60\u00a0cm. Crevalle jack readily accept any style of lure, including hard-bodied spoons, jigs, plugs, and poppers, as well as <a title=\"Fly fishing\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fly_fishing\">flies<\/a> and soft rubber lures.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Mcnally_42-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crevalle_jack#cite_note-Mcnally-42\">[42]<\/a><\/sup> There is some evidence based on long-term observations that the species favors yellow lures over all others.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Mcnally_42-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crevalle_jack#cite_note-Mcnally-42\">[42]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Tackle is often kept quite light, but heavy monofilament leaders are employed to prevent the fish&#8217;s teeth from abrading the line.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Mcnally_42-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crevalle_jack#cite_note-Mcnally-42\">[42]<\/a><\/sup> Crevalle jack are generally considered quite poor table fare, with the selection of younger fish and bleeding upon capture giving the best results. In the inshore environment, crevalle jack inhabit shallow flats, sandy <a title=\"Bay\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bay\">bays<\/a>,<sup id=\"cite_ref-15\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crevalle_jack#cite_note-15\">[15]<\/a><\/sup> <a title=\"Beach\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beach\">beaches<\/a>, <a title=\"Seagrass\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seagrass\">seagrass<\/a> beds, shallow <a title=\"Reef\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reef\">reef<\/a> complexes<sup id=\"cite_ref-fishbase_5-5\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crevalle_jack#cite_note-fishbase-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup> and <a title=\"Lagoon\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lagoon\">lagoons<\/a>. The species is also known to enter brackish waters, with some individuals known to penetrate far upstream; however, like most <a title=\"Euryhaline\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Euryhaline\">euryhaline<\/a> species, they generally do not penetrate very far upriver.<sup id=\"cite_ref-16\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crevalle_jack#cite_note-16\">[16]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Adults that move offshore generally do not leave <a title=\"Continental shelf\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Continental_shelf\">continental shelf<\/a> waters, however still penetrate to depths of 350 m,<sup id=\"cite_ref-Fishid_9-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crevalle_jack#cite_note-Fishid-9\">[9]<\/a><\/sup> and possibly deeper.
